In our increasingly digital and urban world, the skin is exposed to harmful influences more than ever. Two of the biggest challenges are the radiation from screens, known as blue light, and the growing pollution in cities. Both factors contribute to skin stress and accelerate the aging process.

Blue Light: An Invisible Threat from Screens

More and more people spend significant time in front of screens, raising awareness about the harmful effects of blue light (High-Energy Visible Light, HEV) on the skin. Blue light penetrates deep into the skin and causes oxidative stress, leading to cell damage and premature skin aging. This manifests as hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and a dull complexion.

Pollution: An Invisible Danger to the Skin

In urban areas, the skin is constantly exposed to pollutants floating in the air. These microscopic particles penetrate deep into the skin, promoting oxidative stress and damaging the skin barrier. The result is premature skin aging, inflammation, and a loss of elasticity.

How Cosmetics Can Help

To protect the skin from these modern stress factors, specific ingredients in cosmetics play a crucial role. They act as antioxidants, strengthen the skin barrier, and help prevent damage caused by blue light and pollution. Two of our standout active ingredients that optimally support these functions are Carnosine and Ectoin.

  • Carnosine: This ingredient is a powerful antioxidant that protects against the harmful effects of blue light and pollution. Carnosine stimulates collagen production, shields the skin from oxidative stress, and prevents glycation—a process that leads to wrinkles and skin aging. It also helps protect the skin from infrared radiation and visible light, preserving skin firmness and elasticity.

  • Ectoin: Ectoin is a natural cell-protecting ingredient known as an "extremolyte." These molecules protect microorganisms in extreme environments, such as deserts and salt lakes, and are used in cosmetics to safeguard the skin from environmental stress. Ectoin forms a protective water layer around skin cells, shielding them from pollution, UVA/UVB radiation, and blue light. Studies have shown that Ectoin strengthens the skin barrier, reduces inflammation, and protects against environmentally-induced skin aging. It prevents the formation of free radicals and protects cells from damage before it occurs.

Innovative Anti-Pollution Products for Complete Skin Protection

To meet the demands of today’s fast-paced, urban environment, we have developed a range of anti-pollution products that combine advanced ingredients like Carnosine and Ectoin with powerful, modern formulations:

  • Anti-Pollution Micellar Water: This gentle yet effective cleanser removes dirt, oil, and pollutants while preserving the skin’s natural moisture barrier. It’s the perfect first step in any skincare routine to protect against daily urban pollution.

  • Anti-Pollution Splash: A refreshing mist that hydrates and shields the skin from environmental aggressors throughout the day. Ideal for on-the-go protection, it provides an instant boost of moisture and fortifies the skin barrier against pollutants.

  • Anti-Pollution Ceramide Cream: Formulated with essential ceramides, this rich cream strengthens the skin’s protective barrier, locking in moisture while defending against pollution. Ceramides work synergistically with anti-pollution ingredients to repair and protect stressed skin.

  • Anti-Pollution Serum: A concentrated serum that penetrates deeply into the skin, providing powerful antioxidant protection. It helps neutralize free radicals and repair damage caused by blue light and environmental pollution, leaving the skin smoother and more radiant.

Conclusion

Our cosmetic products with Carnosine and Ectoin, along with our innovative anti-pollution line, offer comprehensive protection against the challenges of modern life. They protect the skin from the harmful effects of blue light and pollution, help strengthen the skin barrier, and prevent premature aging. Reinigungswasser

Daily skincare is more than just cleansing and moisturizing – it’s a carefully orchestrated process that ensures your skin is optimally prepared to absorb active ingredients. An often overlooked but essential step in this process is the use of toner, micellar water, or cleansing water. These products play a crucial role in restoring the skin’s proper pH balance and preparing it for subsequent care.

Why is the skin's pH balance so important?

Our skin naturally has a slightly acidic pH, known as the "acid mantle." This protective layer is critical for defending against harmful bacteria and environmental stressors while helping the skin retain moisture. However, cleansing products, environmental factors, and even water can disrupt this pH balance, making the skin more vulnerable and less receptive to skincare products.

This is where toner, micellar water, and cleansing water come into play. These products help restore the skin’s natural pH and optimally prepare it for absorbing subsequent care. Skin that maintains the proper pH balance is not only healthier but also far better equipped to absorb the valuable ingredients in serums, moisturizers, and other skincare products.

Toner: The refreshing preparation

A toner is more than just a refreshing product. It removes any lingering traces of cleansing products and water minerals, balances the skin’s pH, and prepares it for the next skincare steps. Applying a toner soothes the skin and restores its natural balance, making it more receptive to the products that follow.

Micellar Water: Gentle cleansing and care in one step

Micellar water is a true multitasker in skincare. It combines the cleansing power of surfactants with the gentleness of a toner to effectively remove makeup, dirt, and excess oil without drying or irritating the skin. Micellar water is especially gentle and can be used without rinsing, making it ideal for sensitive skin. Its ability to stabilize the skin’s pH makes it the perfect prep for subsequent skincare.

Cleansing Water: The foundation for radiant skin

Cleansing water is a lightweight, refreshing product that penetrates deep into the skin to thoroughly remove dirt and impurities. At the same time, it helps balance the skin’s pH, leaving the skin calm and refreshed. A good cleansing water leaves the skin clean and supple without stripping it of moisture, providing the perfect foundation for subsequent care.

At artefactum, we understand the importance of this crucial step in your skincare routine, offering you a carefully selected range of toner, micellar water, and cleansing water to optimally prepare your skin. EU Kommission

On July 26, 2023, Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union, bringing significant changes to the existing Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 regarding the labeling of fragrance allergens in cosmetic products.

What's new?

The new regulation adds a total of 56 additional fragrance allergens to Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation. These must be labeled when present in concentrations of 0.001% in leave-on products (products that remain on the skin) and 0.01% in rinse-off products (products that are washed off). The labeling will follow the same principles as before, meaning that affected manufacturers will need to adjust their product labels.

This expanded labeling requirement particularly affects numerous essential oils and natural extracts.

Adjustments to existing entries in Annex III

Existing entries in Annex III have also been modified. For instance, common substance names have been updated to the latest version of the Common Ingredients Glossary (CosIng). In addition, similar substances have been grouped together to simplify and streamline the labeling process. Special attention should also be given to products marked with ** in Annex III. These must comply with the new restrictions during the transitional period starting August 15, 2023.

Key deadlines for cosmetic producers:

As a producer and distributor of cosmetic products, it's important to keep the following transitional deadlines in mind:

  • Since August 15, 2023, entries in Annex III marked with ** can no longer be marketed if they exceed the new maximum limits.
  • By July 31, 2026, only cosmetic products that meet the new labeling requirements may be placed on the market.
  • From July 31, 2028, only compliant products may be offered on the EU market.

These deadlines provide companies with the time to phase out non-compliant products and make the necessary adjustments.
